The Cape volleyball teams recorded a hat trick Sept. 10, on the Vikings’ hardwood.
The Cape freshman team won its first ever game with a 25-20, 25-18 victory over visiting Appoquinimink.
“What a fun time for our inaugural freshman match,” said Cape varsity coach Tyler Coupe. “Coach Lori and George Celia have really worked on instilling proper techniques and mechanics and I think it shows. Mia Scott demonstrated a relentless pursuit of the ball, which is such a positive sign in a young setter. Hannah Wells has a really heavy arm, which we love to see. Each lady made a smart, positive play, which at such a developmental-type level is exactly what we want to see.“
The JV team came out swinging and knocked off the Woodbridge squad 25-3, 25-12.
Cape’s varsity team carried over its momentum from the season-opening win over Delmarva Christian with a 25-8, 25-13, 25-5 runaway over the Raiders.
Vikings setter Emme Smith continued to distribute the ball to the hitters, garnering 18 assists, and also did damage on the service line with 12 aces in the match.
Senior Ava Calciano slammed eight kills and aced the Raiders six times.
Maggie Minto, Camilla Willis, Amara Fruchtman, Harper Mamele, Diyla Rohls, Rylee Ockels and Amalia Fruchtman teamed for eight aces.
“Our energy was really high from the Delmarva Christian win,” said sophomore Camilla Willis. “We carried that over into this match.”
“I’m really happy with the consistency behind the service line from Emme Smith,” said Coupe. “Toward middle of last year, I think her confidence wavered a bit, but she’s been our most consistent server these first two matches. We don’t need her scoring aces; we need her putting balls in play consistently in a variety of positions.”
Coupe said libero Amara Fruchtman continues to evolve and see the game with ease.
“A lot of the touches she makes in a match like tonight will go un-statted, but if you know the game and watch how she plays, you understand the impact she’s having,” Couple said.
