A party thrown by royals can be quite the spectacle, particularly a field hockey-scoring fiesta like the one held in Georgetown Sept. 18.
Scoring five goals in the first quarter and four in the second, the Royals had a 9-1 lead over Dickinson after 30 minutes of action, and they added another one for their biggest margin of victory of the season, 10-1.
Junior Hayley Jones led the Royals with four goals and was joined in the hat-trick lounge by eighth-grader Lacie Wilkins. The two girls formed a formidable offense along with eighth-grader Olivia Balback who scored two goals herself. Freshman defender Braelyn Hellens also scored in the contest, resulting in an outburst of cheers and laughter from the Delmarva Christian players and fans.
Dominating possession, the Royals earned 13 corners – 10 more than the Rams – and kept a high line on defense to keep ball in Dickinson territory. Senior Bella Marinelli registered three saves, while classmate Lucy Magee helped control the middle of the field.
The 2-4 Royals have a chance to breach the .500 mark the week of Sept. 22, when they travel to Holly Grove Christian Monday, Sept. 23, host Gunston Wednesday, Sept. 25, and wrap up the three-match week at home against Wilmington Christian Saturday, Sept. 28.
