Royals soccer falters in second half against the Warriors

September 30, 2024

The Delmarva Christian boys’ soccer squad fell to 3-6 with a 5-2 loss to Wilmington Christian Sept. 26, in Georgetown.

The Royals team played tough in the first half, matching the Warriors’ two goals with two goals from sophomore Jay Parrish. Mauricio Chavez was credited with one assist.

They went into the halftime break tied at 2-2.

The Warriors’ scores came from five different players. Matt Rettig, David Acosta, Caleb Palumbo, Luke Lego and Logan Beck each garnered a goal. Palumbo and Beck each tallied an assist.

Royals keeper Quinn Downs made six saves in the cage.

“We fought hard and played a great first half of DCHS soccer,” said Royals head coach Luke Shiderly. “They started strong out of the second half, and yet we couldn’t put away our chances and the game got away from us. We struggled with some injuries, so I’m proud of the next-man-up mentality we’ve had all year as a team.”

The Royals travel to Worcester Prep Tuesday, Oct. 1, for a match against the Mallards.
