Sussex Tech hosts regional welding competition
Sussex Technical High School served as the host location for the American Welding Society Delmarva Section Student Competition Feb. 10, with 11 students participating from Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
Contestants were required to answer five questions and complete welding projects. The welding portion consisted of GMAW, SMAW 6010 and 7018, blueprint reading and fabrication skills.
AWS District Chair Stephanie Hollman, host of the “Metal Shop Masters” television show, was in attendance for this first high school student welding competition.
Contest winners were: First place, Michael Parks from Parkside Career Technology Center, Salisbury, Md.; second place, Jonathan Ramirez from T.H. Badger Technical Center, Onley, Va.; and third place, Brayden Hurd from Polytech High School, Woodside.
Sussex Tech is a public high school that prepares Sussex County students in grades 9-12 for their future success in workforce environments, higher education and the military.
