Walter Brumbley Jr., campground owner
Walter "Ralph" Brumbley Jr., 87, of Milton, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. Ralph was born in Wilmington, son of the late Walter Ralph Brumbley Sr. and Amy (Tucker) McCollum.
He worked as an electrician in Disneyland and served as the mayor in the afternoon parade. He and his wife, Carol, were co-owners of Brumbley Family Park Campground in Milton. Ralph was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also a Boy Scout leader with the Chesapeake Bay Scouts. He would let the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts camp out at the campground every year. He also held father-and-son campouts for the church members and organized a fishing tournament every year for the kids. He was a Mason at Oriental Lodge No. 27 in Wilmington and a member of IBEW No. 313 for over 65 years. Ralph loved to travel with Carol and was also a long-distance runner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William "Bill' Brumbley; and a sister, Dianne Redd.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carol Ann (Short) Brumbley; his children, Ralph Brumbley, John Thomas Brumbley, David Scott Brumbley, Regina Chillas, Charles Denn, Joshua Bilbrough and Sarah Cozzens; a brother, William Brumbley; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 110 E Lucky Estates Drive, Harrington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, DE 19963.
