The eighth annual Ashley Furio 5K, leaving from the Crooked Hammock in Lewes Oct. 12, saw 209 timed runners finish, and another group of walkers and crooked crawlers who paid full price before posing for a photo then snaking not so straight to the post-race buffet.
Matt Sparacino, 46, aka the Harrington Harrier, was the overall winner in 18:10. Olivia Montini, 20, was second overall and first female in 18:31. Paul Montini, 56, won the male masters in 19:21, while Ginny Warren, 46, won the female masters in 22:03.
The fourth annual Darby Dash 5K, held Oct. 13 at Cape Henlopen State Park, produced 57 finishers, at least half of which were slowed down by leashed dogs.
Mike Sewell, 55, was the overall winner in 20:35. Mike’s wife Molly, 51, won the female masters title in 29:15. Both received custom dog awards, but Mike’s dog was bigger.
Jamie Hicks, 46, was the overall female winner and fifth overall in 23:17. Richard Boyle, 72, of Frankford was third overall and first in the male masters division in 22:06.
