The Developing Artist Collaboration will host its popular Black Friday weekend shopping event, Dewey Sip & Shop, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29 and 30, at the Hyatt Place Dewey Beach, 1301 Coastal Hwy., Dewey Beach.
An enjoyable alternative to the seasonal frenzy of big-box stores, Dewey Sip & Shop allows shoppers to find one-of-a-kind, handmade gifts and purchase them directly from the talented artists who made them. Attractions also include live local music and entertainment, raffle items donated by local businesses, and a chance to purchase holiday-themed handmade cocktails.
This event continues to provide a lucrative platform for local artists to sell their art and handmade goods to locals and visitors alike over Thanksgiving weekend. What began in 2015 with a small collection of emerging artists selling gifts in a heated tent at The Starboard has grown into an event featuring more than 45 local artist-vendors welcoming thousands of guests from all over the region each day.
“Buying handmade has a massive impact on our local economy. It’s estimated that less than 10% of revenue from a mass-made product purchased at a big-box store will go back into the local economy and communities. When you purchase from a local artist, the majority of the revenue from that purchase is pumped right back into your local community,” said Leah Beach, DAC founder and creator of Dewey Sip & Shop. “We are so proud of the expansion of Dewey Sip & Shop, but we are even prouder to see how our community has responded to this over the years, creating even more opportunities for our incredible local artists.”
