November 29, 2024

Gov. John Carney announced Nov. 22 a slate of judicial nominees, including positions for Sussex County Family Court and Court of Chancery.

The Hon. Bonnie W. David is nominated for vice chancellor of the Court of Chancery, while Judge Paula Terese Ryan and Commissioner Sonja Truitt Wilson are nominated for reappointments to their positions at Sussex County Family Court.

Carney has called an extraordinary session of the Senate Monday, Dec. 16, to consider the nominations.

“We are fortunate to have such qualified nominees who have the experience and judgment necessary to serve as part of Delaware’s world-class judiciary,” Carney said. “Magistrate David has met the high standards of our Court of Chancery, and will continue to serve our state well on our country’s premier venue for corporate litigation. I want to thank our new nominee, and our existing judges and commissioners for their willingness to serve the State of Delaware through our court system. I look forward to the Senate considering these nominations.”

David received a bachelor’s degree from Boston University in 2010 and earned her juris doctorate cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2013. She has been a magistrate in Chancery since January 2023 and previously practiced law for the firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP, where she litigated a wide variety of corporate matters before the Court of Chancery.

Ryan earned a B.A. from University of Pennsylvania and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to being appointed to Family Court in 2012, she was a chief county prosecutor and deputy attorney general for the Delaware Department of Justice.

Wilson earned a B.A. from University of Delaware in 1989 and her J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1992. Prior to her appointment in 1997 as a commissioner in the Family Court, she practiced family law as an associate attorney in Sussex County.
