After the first round of the British Open has concluded, PGA rookie Cameron Young, who is only 26, is in the lead. He shot a 64 and is ahead by two over Rory McElroy, who has not won a major championship for almost eight years. He last won the 2014 PGA championship. Cameron is most likely going to win the Rookie of the Year award on the PGA Tour because he also had a great chance to win the PGA Championship two months ago. He missed a playoff by one shot. Tiger Woods is most likely going to miss the cut. He struggled to a 78 in the first round. It was a strange round for Tiger because it seemed like he was physically doing pretty well, but his iron play and putting were terrible. I think this is because he has only played seven rounds on the PGA Tour this year. I wonder how long he’s going to continue playing if he struggles this much? I guess that will be determined in the next year or two.
The last two rounds of this event will be on NBC in the morning. This is the 30th time they have played the Open tournament at St. Andrew’s. One of my favorite facts about the British Open, is that the first Open was played just before Abraham Lincoln became President in 1860. That’s amazing!
Wimbledon has come to an end. Novak Djokovic won his 21st Grand Slam in four sets over Nick Kyrgios from Australia. Novak's win was his fourth straight Wimbledon championship. There is no question he’s one of the best tennis players of all time, but there is a question whether or not he will be eligible to play in the U.S. Open in August because of his vaccination status. On the women’s side, Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan won a three-set match over 27-year-old Ons Jabeur from Tunisia. Elena is only 20 years old. This proves that the field in women's tennis is completely wide open right now, which is a good thing for the sport.
