Press Release Guidelines

Press releases are published at the editor’s discretion, as space permits.
Press releases should be emailed to newsroom@capegazette.com.
Copy and paste the text of the press release into the body of the email. Attach individual .jpeg images to the email. PDFs, fliers, posters and documents with embedded images will not be accepted for publication.
First and last names must be listed for every individual pictured in order from left to right, back row to front.
Limit submissions to 700 words or fewer.
No prices, percentages or discounts will be published in a press release.
Releases should not be about new products or services offered by an existing business unless there is an overwhelming nonprofit and/or health-related benefit to that product or service.
Event releases should be limited to nonprofit events. If the business is for-profit, the event should be free and open to the community to attend.
Releases that are duplications of news stories previously reported about the same business and/or service(s) will not be published.
Releases by businesses should be focused on announcing new hires, acknowledgment of industry awards, charitable efforts, educational and certification type efforts.
Releases announcing awards which are pay-to-play contests run by other publications will not be published in the Cape Gazette.

Include event name, date, time, location and a contact number when submitting a calendar item. Make a check-off list which includes who, when, where, and why. Also, please keep the item brief.

Letters to the Editor

All letters are considered at the discretion of the newsroom and published as space allows
Email letters to viewpoints@capegazette.com. Due to the large volume of submissions, we cannot acknowledge receipt of each submission.
Letters must include a phone number and address for verification.
Keep letters to 400 words or fewer. We reserve the right to edit for content or length.
Letters should be responsive to issues addressed in the Cape Gazette rather than content from other publications or media. Letters should focus on local issues, not national topics or personalities.
Only one letter per author will be published every 30 days regarding a particular topic. Authors may submit a second letter within that time period if it pertains to a different issue.
Letters may not be critical of personalities or specific businesses. Criticism of public figures is permissible.
Endorsement letters for political candidates are no longer accepted.
Letters must be the author’s original work, and may not be generated by artificial intelligence tools. Templates, form letters and letters containing language similar to other submissions will not be published.
