Author entertains Rehoboth Elementary students

Alice Faye Duncan visits school as part of History Book Festival
October 2, 2024

Rehoboth Elementary students were singing and dancing in their seats during a lively visit from author Alice Faye Duncan Sept. 27, as part of the History Book Festival.

Duncan’s talk, “Black Barbies and the Patriarchy,” focused on two of her children’s books, “Coretta’s Journey,” about Coretta Scott King, and “Traveling Shoes,” about five-time U.S. Olympian Willye White.

In her talk, Duncan referred to King and White as “two girls who loved pretty clothes and liked to fight.” Her message to students was to use their mental might, and not their fists, when fighting against those leading a system of control.
