Bayhealth welcomes new hematologist oncologist to cancer institute

Bayhealth Hematology/Oncology Associates recently welcomed hematologist and medical oncologist Sheeba Habeeb Ba Aqeel, MD, to the Bayhealth Cancer Institute. She joins a committed and compassionate team of clinicians caring for patients across Kent and Sussex counties.

Ba Aqeel treats a variety of cancers and diseases of the blood, and is passionate about partnering with her patients to establish individualized and comprehensive treatment plans. She comes to Bayhealth from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, N.Y., where she completed her hematology and oncology fellowship and was chief administrative fellow.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ba Aqeel to our team of hematology and medical oncology specialists here at the Bayhealth Cancer Institute,” said Iftekhar A. Khan, MD, Oncology Services chief and Medical Oncology director at Bayhealth. “She brings with her a wide range of experience with many different types of cancers and blood diseases that will undoubtedly provide the best care to our patients.”

Ba Aqeel earned her bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery degrees in her native country of India at Deccan College of Medical Sciences, NTR University of Health Science. She went on to complete her internal medicine residency at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, Ill. She is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.

Bayhealth is a member of the Penn Cancer Network and is the only cancer program in Delaware affiliated with a National Cancer Institute–designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
