Beebe to offer diabetes prevention classes in Ocean View, Millsboro
Beebe Healthcare is organizing two classes for the National Diabetes Prevention Program, to be held in Ocean View and Millsboro.
The program features a Centers for Disease Control-approved curriculum with comprehensive resources, delivered by four trained lifestyle coaches. Participants benefit from weekly sessions during the first four months, followed by ongoing support groups, and practical strategies for healthy eating and physical activity. The curriculum includes proven stress management techniques and sustainable lifestyle modifications.
Research shows that participants who follow the program can reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by up to 58% (71% for those over 60).
To qualify for the program, participants must be age 18 or older and have a BMI of 25 or higher. They must not have been previously diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes or end-stage renal disease. Also, participants should have a prediabetes diagnosis, previous gestational diabetes diagnosis or test as high-risk on the prediabetes risk assessment.
The Ocean View class series will meet from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesdays starting March 25, at Ocean View Church of Christ, 55 West Ave., Ocean View.
The Millsboro classes began Feb. 26, but there is still time to enroll. Sessions are held from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesdays at Millsboro Public Library, 217 West State St., Millsboro.
