Beebe Medical Group recently hosted a learning event for physicians and advanced practice clinicians, focusing on the latest advancements in surgical care at Beebe Healthcare.
The clinicians specializing in primary care heard from numerous surgeons and Beebe leaders about services available to their patients.
“Primary care is essential for a patient’s wellness by receiving preventative care and connecting them with specialists when needed. At Beebe Healthcare, we are committed to advancing care and access to care for Sussex County,” said Paul Sierzenski, MD, MSHQS, CPE, FACEP, Beebe Healthcare chief physician executive. “It was great to have so many clinicians discuss our care advancements and streamlining access in numerous specialty fields.”
Attendees heard from surgical oncologists James Spellman, MD, and Jesus Esquivel, MD, about the procedures available to patients at Beebe Surgical Oncology, including Esquivel’s specialization in hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for patients with gastrointestinal and gynecological cancers.
DaKota Urban, MD, provided an update on the services he provides since Beebe Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery opened with his arrival in February 2024.
Mark Facciolo, DO, director of robotic surgery, presented on the continued quality and efficiency of Beebe’s robotics program and how it is helping patients recover faster.
Bariatric surgeon Tarek Waked, MD, educated attendees on weight-loss medications and surgeries, and how primary care clinicians can guide their patients to what approach is best for them.
One of Beebe’s newest physicians, urologist Christopher Caputo, MD, introduced himself and talked about the newest approaches to benign prostatic hyperplasia, a non-cancerous condition that causes an enlarged prostate.
Thoracic surgeon Marisa Amaral, MD, spoke about Beebe’s navigational bronchoscopy and the positive impact it can have on lung surgeries.
Michele Thomas, MD, a colorectal surgeon and longtime medical staff member, also formally introduced herself after having joined Beebe Medical Group in November 2024.
To close the presentation, John Powell, MD, physician in chief, and Amanda Connoyer, DNP, chief advanced practice clinician, addressed the referral process and how Beebe is always working to make sure its patients are seen in the timeliest manner for their condition.
Producing the event underscores Beebe’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare services through continuous education and collaboration among healthcare professionals.
“Beebe Healthcare is continuing on its mission to provide the highest quality of integrated healthcare to the people of Sussex County,” said Dr. David A. Tam, Beebe Healthcare president and CEO. “We have made tremendous progress but still have more to do. It takes a multi-specialty team of medical professionals working together symbiotically throughout Sussex County so that our health system can provide the latest advancements in a streamlined approach for our patients.”
