Bethany arts festival raises funds for local school programs
The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce recently donated a total of $7,000 to the art programs at John M. Clayton Elementary, Lord Baltimore Elementary, Phillip C. Showell Elementary, Southern Delaware School of the Arts, and Selbyville Middle School. Freeman Arts Pavilion’s Arts Access Initiative and the LEO club from Indian River High School were also included in the contributions. This year, students, parents and teachers from beneficiary schools and organizations participated in the festival by volunteering their time.
The checks were presented at the chamber’s September business after hours networking event hosted at Mio Fratello’s Loft on 54. Nearly $5,000 was raised at the silent auction during the chamber’s Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival, which was sponsored by Jayne’s Reliable of Dagsboro. Another $2,170 was raised from a new wine-tasting event added to the arts festival to celebrate its 45th anniversary. Sponsored by Beach Liquors, the wine tasting was held at Harvest Tide Steakhouse and featured 60 different wines.
The nationally ranked art show is a juried event that hosts more than 100 artists to showcase and sell their work. Featured artists bring unique creations representing a variety of different mediums including paintings, photography, woodwork, metalwork, clay and jewelry.
Next year’s Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 7.
