President addressed nation from convention center
July 13, 2024

President Joe Biden delivered a Saturday night address to the nation from the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, reacting to the shooting of former President Donald Trump.

Biden called the shooting “sick” and condemned political violence.

Trump was shot in the ear Saturday afternoon, July 13, during a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania.

The president’s motorcade arrived at the convention center from his home in North Shores just before 8 p.m.

Secret Service had set up a security perimeter around city hall and the convention center. Pedestrians were kept from walking in front of the building and through the parking lot in the rear while the president was inside.

The president left through the police department’s portal around 8:20 p.m. The motorcade departed west on Rehoboth Avenue.

In video sent to the Cape Gazette, first lady Jill Biden could be seen in the back seat of one of the SUVs.

A spectator said they saw the president wave as the vehicles drove away.

A least one of the television networks had set up a broadcast location on the balcony of the Rehoboth Beach Library, across from city hall.
