Blood Bank to give festive T-shirts to donors thru Dec. 1
During Thanksgiving week, Blood Bank of Delmarva is encouraging blood donations by providing festive long-sleeve T-shirts to every presenting donor through Sunday, Dec. 1, at any of Delmarva’s donor centers and mobile blood drives, while supplies last.
BBD recently issued an urgent call for blood donors as local donations have declined, further jeopardizing the community’s blood supply during the holiday season. This is a time when holiday travel and festivities often lead to a decrease in donations. BBD is facing a shortage of all blood types, especially Type O, which is crucial for emergencies and trauma care. Last year, BBD saw nearly a 20% drop in donations during Thanksgiving week alone and is calling on donors to help prevent a similar shortfall this year.
“The holiday season is a time for coming together and celebrating traditions with family and friends, but it also brings a critical need for blood donations across our region,” said Steve Corse, Blood Bank of Delmarva executive director. “We encourage the community to make blood donation part of their Thanksgiving tradition, embracing the spirit of giving and spreading hope to those in need. BBD is thankful for every donor for their lifesaving gift, not just this holiday season but all year round.”
Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month. The Food and Drug Administration recently lifted eligibility restrictions. To view current eligibility guidelines and make an appointment, go to delmarvablood.org and click on donate blood or call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8.
