Cape special education parent council session set Feb. 8

February 2, 2023

The Cape Henlopen School District’s Special Education Department, in partnership with Child Inspired, will hold its next informative session for district families from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Lewes Elementary School.

“The special education parent council began hosting the meetings back in October,” said Dr. Eileen Baker, Cape district supervisor of special programs. “It’s an opportunity for parents, guardians and caregivers to discuss important topics throughout the year and also provide a community of support for each other.”

Pizza and childcare are provided for each one-hour session.

“These sessions include connecting parents with specialists in our area who can provide information on various topics,” said Baker. “Topics include home and educational strategies for anxiety, strategies for students with attention and executive function deficits, and how to set up an educational space at home. Each session will also provide resources for those students and families with disabilities.”

Previous topics addressed creating positive connections, fostering a healthy learning environment at home and tackling childhood anxiety. Parents can expect to receive additional information in the weeks leading up to each session through the district’s electronic flyer distribution service and on social media.

Registration is not required, but if possible, email RSVPs to Eileen.Baker@cape.k12.de.us.
