In defense of opine

February 4, 2025

A recent letter to the editor criticized Cape Gazette reporter/columnist Chris Flood for lamenting never having the chance to interview former President Joe Biden. Not that he needs defending, but that letter seemed a bit harsh. Flood was just making a mild observation in a recent column that it was too bad the ex-prez did not make himself more available to the local press over his four-year term. The letter writer labeled the lament a whine, but I read it more of an opine, echoing many on a national level who criticized the Biden administration’s lack of accessibility and transparency.

Maybe now that Biden has perhaps a less-demanding schedule, he might grant the columnist an interview when he is next in Rehoboth. If so, it will prove that even so-called whines age better with time.
