October 24, 2024

The Delmarva Christian volleyball team celebrated its Class of 2025 with a 25-16, 25-8, 25-9 victory over visiting Red Lion Christian Academy Oct. 23 at the Royals’ Georgetown campus.

The Royals finish the regular season with an 8-7 record, while the Lions are 4-10 with one match remaining.

The six Royals seniors were Red Lion tamers from the start, with strong serving and net play from Elaina Millaway, who pounded 11 kills, served five aces, blocked two shots and bumped six digs. Teammate Layni Dukes tallied seven aces and knocked down six kills. Royals senior setter Keely Kondracki distributed 20 assists.

Seniors Khushi Patel, Taylor Lowe and Madison Jones, and sophomore Katherine Jones teamed for 10 kills, four aces, seven digs and eight blocks.

“I’m feeling a lot of excitement right now,” said Dukes. “It’s sad knowing that this is the end of our regular season, but it’s great to end it with a win. I definitely think this will be a confidence booster going into the tournament. We’ve been changing our lineup this season, so I think it’s good to have a lot of that confidence going into the playoffs.”

“I think we are going to do well in the state tournament,” said Royals head coach John Luong. “The girls are very positive. The camaraderie and the unity is there. The girls love each other and play for each other. We are going to do our best. Some played in different positions in this match. I have six graduating seniors, so I wanted to give them as much time on the court as I could on Senior Night.”

The Royals await their seeding in the DIAA state tournament.
