Doing Death Differently workshop set Feb. 8
Healtree will present a free workshop, Doing Death Differently: Redefining End-of-Life Care with Compassion and Clarity, from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1632 Savannah Road, Suite 10, Lewes. There is also an online option for those who wish to attend via Zoom.
Caregivers and people facing a terminal illness are invited to join this workshop to learn concrete steps to feel more prepared for the one thing promised to all, that each person’s life will one day come to an end. Individuals often have advance notice of their death, but not always. Attendees will learn more about what an end-of-life doula is and considerations involved in planning for the end.
Guiding the workshop will be Tanya Harris, a death doula who supports people facing the end of life, and their loved ones. Facing death can be overwhelming in many ways. The role of an end-of-life doula is to reduce stress by helping individuals organize their affairs, and plan their funeral and last days, and to offer emotional support and sit vigil.
With a professional career in healthcare administration, Harris is familiar with how hospitals, health centers and hospices work. She can help people navigate through the often-confusing administrative aspects of healthcare. As a hospice volunteer for over 10 years and a certified death doula, Harris has supported people through their last days countless times.
