The Philadelphia Eagles have selected Nick Sirianni to be the next head coach of the team. He is only 39 years old, and was the offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts this year. He is the youngest head coach for the Eagles since Dick Vermeil in 1976. I think the Eagles are trying to find the next Sean McVay or Kevin Stefanski, who, at very young ages, are having playoff success with the Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns. Oh well, I hope he's a good choice, but I also hope he has the guts to hire a more creative defensive coordinator. He deserves a fair shot and it will be interesting to follow what he decides to do to improve the team for next year.
On Wednesday, there was very disappointing golf news about Tiger Woods’ continued problems with his back. Not completely surprising though to hear that he has undergone another back surgery. This is No. 5. This procedure was to alleviate pain from disc problems. If he can’t get back to 95 percent, he might have to retire, which almost never happens in golf because a career can usually go on for many years past the super high performance early years. I hope he can try to come back for the Players Championship in the middle of March. If not then, hopefully the Masters in April.
The PGA Tour has come to California for the west coast swing after being in Hawaii for the first two weeks. As expected, I will be following the events.
Looking forward to the baseball season, I think there is a good possibility that the Phillies will be able to re-sign all-star catcher J.T. Realmuto. This would be a great sign for the Phillies prospects in the division this year. For months and months, the media was predicting that the New York Mets were going to sign him as a free agent, but they decided to sign James McCann from the Oakland A’s instead. I think the Phillies also need a third starting pitcher to back up Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler. If they do, they may actually have a shot to make the playoffs.
Spring training usually starts in the middle of February, but that's still a bit of an unknown with this never ending pandemic. I am really hoping the "normal" startup timing will be a reality.
