Each October, Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company members visit students to provide education on important fire safety topics and reinforce knowledge about fire prevention.
For the annual fire prevention contests, students in kindergarten through third grade prepared posters on an assigned topic. Students in fourth through eighth grades composed essays on their assigned topic.
The Sussex County Volunteer Firefighters Association held its annual Fire Prevention Awards Program Nov. 22, hosted by the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department. Three Rehoboth Elementary School students were honored at the event for their creativity and fire prevention awareness.
The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company team is proud of all the students who participated in the program, and would like to acknowledge those who received awards at the county level for their success.
A kindergartener in Kathy McMahon’s class, Bennett Bekesha received third-place honors for the poster he created on the topic of three things in the home that will burn you.
Rowan Rosero, a third-grader in Lisa Craig’s class, placed third for her poster on how to develop a home fire escape plan.
Daxton Napolitano, a fifth-grader in Tiffany McMahon’s class, placed third for the essay he wrote on fire safety in the kitchen.
