Food Bank of Delaware and Sussex Family YMCA distributed 90 boxes filled with pre-packaged, nonrefrigerated, nonperishable food May 19, continuing the food distribution program.
State Auditor and Henlopen Acres resident Kathy McGuiness, who helped distribute the boxes, said there weren’t as many people in line as there had been at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is a good thing. However, she said, the people who did show up appreciated the opportunity.
Each Friday, the YMCA will distribute weekend meals for children in need through the Food Bank of Delaware Backpack Program. Meals include nutritious food such as shelf-stable milk and juice, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and meatballs, beef stew, granola bars, applesauce, cereal and more. Meals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No registration is required.
