Free tax prep assistance appointments start Feb. 7

February 5, 2025

In partnership with Nehemiah Gateway Community Development Corporation, the Lewes Public Library will host IRS-certified volunteers working with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program to offer free federal and state tax preparation assistance to taxpayers in need.

The program is available to taxpayers of all ages with income of $67,000 per household or less.

Appointments are required. Scheduled appointments will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Fridays and Tuesdays, from Feb. 7 to April 17, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes.

To make an appointment, taxpayers should call 302-703-7198 and leave a message, including name and phone number. A volunteer will call back within 48 hours to schedule an appointment and provide instructions. VITA volunteers are certified by the IRS to handle basic tax preparation. Lengthy, complex returns that are time-consuming to prepare cannot be accommodated.

Each filing season, tens of thousands of dedicated VITA volunteers prepare millions of federal and state returns nationwide. All VITA volunteers who prepare returns must pass tax law and confidentiality training that meets or exceeds IRS standards.

Nehemiah Gateway Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization working to engage, mobilize and support low- to moderate-income families and individuals in developing and executing strategies for achieving their economic goals.
