With the support of the community and a matching donation, Freeman Arts Pavilion’s recent Arts Supply Drive was a resounding success and will provide art room resources to six area schools.
Freeman Arts, a program of the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation, held an Art Supply Drive last month to benefit local elementary schools’ art departments as part of its mission of advancing arts access for all. Donations collected included supplies such as glue sticks, scissors, paint, sponges, Sharpies and more, with nearly 3,300 items donated at a value of more than $6,166.
Six Title I schools in the Indian River School District received the donated supplies, and to further the impact, the Carl M. Freeman Foundation matched all donations raised, with each school receiving an additional $1,000 to support its music classroom.
"We are thrilled to support our local art teachers, who work tirelessly to inspire creativity and instill a love of art in students from a young age,” said Lindsay Richard, Freeman Arts community engagement director. “Teachers do so much with limited resources, and we’re honored to provide them with the supplies they need to help their students thrive creatively.”
Freeman Arts Pavilion is a program of the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation with the purpose of creating opportunities that elevate the human spirit. It is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The division promotes Delaware arts events on DelawareScene.com. Grant support is also provided by the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, the Carl M. Freeman Foundation, Sussex County Council and the State of Delaware.
