Galvin Cello Quartet delights Coastal Concerts audience

October 18, 2024

Members of the Galvin Cello Quartet took the stage Oct. 5 in Lewes for the Coastal Concerts season opener.

Performing to an engaged and enthusiastic audience, the quartet played works by Niccolò Paganini, Camille Saint-Saëns, Ludwig van Beethoven, Gioachino Rossini, Kazimierz Wiłkomirski, Pyotr Tchaikovsky and David Popper.

“Once again, Coastal Concerts produced a wonderful concert, reminding us of how critical it is to our arts community in Southern Delaware,” said Steve Van Order, a season ticket holder.

Denise Emery, longtime concert attendee and former board president of Coastal Concerts, said, “With so much skill, energy and enthusiasm, the program had great variety and was spellbinding.”

The quartet also performed a free public recital Oct. 4 to a packed house at CAMP Rehoboth.

Coming from China, Brazil, South Korea and the United States, musicians Haddon Kay, Luiz Fernando Venturelli, Sydney Lee and James Baik seek to bring together new works from diverse cultural backgrounds while establishing the cello quartet as a core part of the classical music world.

“Coastal Concerts always brings exciting and incredibly talented musicians who introduce the audience to new and lesser-known composers. The Galvin Cello Quartet wowed us with their performance,” said longtime patron Anne Barney.

Board member Wayne Eichler said, “The Galvin Quartet’s recent performance was not just a showcase of technical precision, but a celebration of evolution and growth with the addition of their newest member. The ensemble, already known for its lush interpretations and cohesive sound, has found a fresh dynamic that is both bold and seamless."

Coastal Concerts’ next offering will feature Curtis on Tour: Eriny’s Quartet, at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9. Lani Spahr will give a Performance Insights talk at 1 p.m. before the show. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to coastalconcerts.org.
