The Glade Property Owners Association near Rehoboth Beach has submitted an application for an innovation grant to fund a feasibility study for an extension of the Junction & Breakwater Trail on Holland Glade Road.
Currently, the trail from Lewes to Rehoboth Beach crosses Holland Glade Road near Epworth United Methodist Church.
The application was submitted by Sussex County Councilman Mark Schaeffer.
The board and master planning committee met Oct. 23 with local Delaware Bike Council member Walt Bryan.
Work on trail improvements is underway at the opposite end of Holland Glade Road. The project includes 1,100 feet of multi-use trail and 325 feet of sidewalk to Sandalwood Drive on the northbound side of the road.
Included are three new curb ramps and modifications to the trail crossing on Holland Glade Road.
The Delaware Department of Transportation also has plans for a new traffic signal at the Route 1 intersection.
For the next week, the trail will be closed at Holland Glade Road, with a detour in place. The closure will allow contractors to complete a sidewalk along the road.
Trail users will use Hebron Road.
