According to the week-ahead guidance issued Aug. 1 from the White House, President Joe Biden is expected to be visiting his North Shores home Friday, Aug. 6. The guidance says Biden will receive an economic briefing and then travel to his home, where he will stay through the weekend.

This will be the second time Biden has visited his home just north of Rehoboth Beach since being sworn in as president, but it will be his first weekend visit.

During his first presidential visit in early June, Biden arrived Wednesday afternoon and left around noon Friday. He spent most of his time at home with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, who was celebrating her 70th birthday. However, he did venture out briefly a couple times – he and Jill enjoyed a bike ride on the Gordons Pond Trail to Herring Point in Cape Henlopen State Park, and he conducted a press conference in Rehoboth Beach City Hall before heading back to Washington, D.C.

Users of Gordons Pond should expect restrictions when Biden is in town. In advance of the first visit, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control issued a notice saying the parking lot at the Gordons Pond end of Cape Henlopen State Park would be closed during certain portions of Biden’s trip. The parking lot is just around the corner from Biden’s home. As of press deadline Aug. 2, DNREC had not issued such a notice, but it’s expected the same restrictions will be put in place during the upcoming visit.

Pilots and drone users should also expect air restrictions. During the president’s first visit, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a temporary flight restriction for pretty much all the airspace from Dover to Ocean City, Md.

Being a weekend visit, the inconvenience to commercial enterprises – lawn care, cleaning, maintenance and other contractors – should be limited, but when Biden was in town the first time those businesses had to pass through a security check in the state park before being allowed to enter the North Shores community.
