Historian Syl Woolford to lecture in Seaford April 28
Mount Calvary AME Church in Seaford will host historian and lecturer Syl Woolford from 3:30 to 4:40 p.m., Sunday, April 28. He will discuss Black Loyalists, the Revolutionary War and Black Patriots.
Woolford is a native Delawarean who currently lives in Newark. He is a graduate of Delaware State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting, and a graduate of Rutgers University with a master of business administration degree in marketing.
He recently retired from a career in accounting and sales with such firms as Campbell Soup, IBM, Pacific Telesis and Sun Information Services. Most recently he worked for and retired from AAA Mid-Atlantic in Wilmington.
Woolford’s interest in history began with researching his own family history. He traced his mother’s family, the Saunders family, for 210 years in the city of Newark.
Most recently, Woolford has traced the Woolford side of his family back to Dorchester County, Md., and made a connection with Harriet Tubman’s legendary efforts in freeing slaves in Dorchester County.
Woolford has been active with several historical and genealogical societies including the Delaware Heritage Commission, the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs, and the Delaware Genealogical Society.
