Horizon Philanthropic adds new associates services
Horizon Philanthropic Services, southern Delaware’s leading fund development firm, is expanding its staff of associates and services to better support regional nonprofits.
To assist clients with fundraising proposals, Karen McGrath, longtime Sussex County director for U.S. Sen. Tom Carper, will join the 23-year-old firm Monday, Jan. 1. She will focus on state and federal funding opportunities.
“As the cost of capital projects continues to increase, our clients require new sources of support in addition to traditional private giving,” said Michael Rawl, Horizon principal. “Karen brings unmatched experience to public funding, including research, application and the required follow-up stages. She will be an extraordinary asset to Horizon clients.”
The firm is also announcing a new department to focus on social media and website management that Rawl said plays more of a role in marketing communications and fundraising every year. Horizon associate Susan Hyde will bring her 15 years of experience to this role.
“Given high expenses of postage and printing, the cost-effectiveness, flexibility and immediacy of digital marketing has become an essential tool for every client,” Rawl said. “Susan Hyde has unique knowledge and talent in this field.”
Over the past 23 years, Horizon has helped raise more than $130 million for its nonprofit clients, primarily in southern Delaware. The firm is currently managing the Fourth Street Preserve campaign for its client, the Greater Lewes Foundation; creating a fundraising campaign for renovations to the downtown Rehoboth Beach Public Library and site acquisition for a new facility; and continuing efforts for existing clients, including Sussex Montessori School.
“While most of our work has involved capital campaigns, we are broadening our project capabilities with Karen and Susan to provide exceptional service in these critical areas of public funding and social media,” Rawl said.
