A number of sports will be attempting to come back this month, including Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer and NBA basketball. I think the key for this to go forward will be to have as few positive COVID tests as possible within the next two weeks. This would prove to the different state governments that they can pull this off when their official seasons are supposed to start. In baseball, the start date is July 24, and for basketball the date is July 30. Major League Soccer is scheduled to start on July 8 in Florida. That will be a good test case for the other teams. Everyone will be paying close attention.
The NFL has announced the first two preseason games have been canceled for all teams. I think this is a good move, but I hope they get to play some preseason games. Assuming they play at all, I would want the first two weeks of the regular season to be competitive games, so we don't have what happens in college football. There, the first two games are almost always a mismatch between small and large programs. It's really just a preseason game for the big program.
Unfortunately, it was announced that there will be no minor league baseball season this year. This is a very sad first for the minor league. I hope the major league clubs financially support a majority of the minor league teams so that they don't have to fold or file bankruptcy. That would be a really sad result of this COVID mess.
I hope everybody enjoys the holiday. Even though there will be no fireworks in Delaware and many other states, I am going to watch some kind of fireworks on a DVD or TV from years past.
