Karen Gillions Way, devoted granny

January 23, 2025

Karen Gillions Way died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, in Lewes, after a very brief illness. She was born in Washington, D.C., Sept. 29, 1953, daughter of Cecil B. and Anna Mae Gillions, and grew up in Prince George’s County, Md.

In 1977, she married Edward Way, a teacher, school administrator, and historic interpreter, who predeceased her in 2011.

Karen worked for the National Center for State Courts in Williamsburg, Va., but she would be the first to tell you that the roles she valued most were as a mother and a granny. After nearly 40 years in Williamsburg, she moved to Virginia Beach and then Lewes.

Always friendly and generous, she is survived by her daughter, Annie Bressack; her son-in-law, Seth; her granddaughters, Rose and Edith; her brother, Marty, and his family; countless cousins; and numerous friends from throughout her life.

A memorial service will be held later.

Donations can be made in her honor to the charity of choice, particularly those that support children.
