Legacy Academy commemorates Protestant Reformation day

November 10, 2024

In late October, Legacy Academy students and staff celebrated Reformation Day in honor of Martin Luther nailing his 95 theses to the Castle Church door in Wittenburg, Germany. Legacy’s third annual Reformation Day theme was Post Tenebras Lux: After Darkness, Light. Luther’s call to theological debate would ignite the Protestant Reformation in the spiritually dark world of the Middle Ages.

Students and faculty dressed in medieval costumes, participated in period games and feasted at an authentic medieval table. Most importantly, there were crafts, stories and lessons about the ministry of Martin Luther and his work to return the church to biblical teaching.

Legacy Academy, the only classical Christian school in Sussex County, hosts four Scholé Days a year, one to cap each academic quarter. These events allow students to immerse themselves in the life and culture of a historical period.

“Legacy Academy Scholé Days are highlights of our academic year. We intentionally pause and look back at the past. Legacy students can identify the ways in which events like the Reformation influenced Western civilization and our present day,” said Barbrow. “By studying church history, we are also shaping the hearts of Legacy students to love what God loves. Legacy Academy holds out these forefathers of the faith as men who devoted their lives to his service and encourages students to follow in their footsteps.”
