In Friday’s paper, I saw the pictures for Lewes’ 2025 temporary installations. I wonder why we need to view this type of art in our two parks filled with beautiful trees, water and birds.
Last year in George H.P. Smith Park, two of the contemporary pieces of art were the revolving mirrors and the revolving structure in the water surrounding the island. Some people said the sunlight coming off the mirrors startled the dogs and people walking in the park. They eventually had to be moved because the sunlight was reflecting in one of the homes in the area. The large revolving object in the water scared the fish, turtles and birds in the area. There were no fish in that area for the people who enjoyed fishing there. This year, Lewes wants to put three colored steel columns at the edge of the park. I can’t imagine how they add to the beauty of our park.
At Canalfront Park, three pieces of recycled plastic bottles will be hung on trellises. I didn’t realize that making plastic art to hang in our beautiful parks was the purpose of our recycling.
Don’t you think viewing nature is what we really want when we visit our parks?
