We are writing to express our concerns regarding the continued development of housing in the City of Lewes, specifically the Warrington property. While new homes can contribute to our community’s growth, we must consider the ramifications this development will have on our already-strained infrastructure, particularly in terms of traffic.
As more homes are built, we can expect significant increases in traffic. Living on DeVries Circle, we are already grappling with traffic issues such as speeding vehicles and large trucks navigating a route that wasn’t designed for such heavy use. The absence of a through road connecting Savannah Road and Kings Highway (between the Warrington and Dutchman’s Harvest properties) will exacerbate this problem, funneling more traffic onto DeVries Circle and increasing the likelihood of accidents and congestion. This is especially worrisome with the presence of children and families walking and riding bikes to and from the schools across the street.
For many residents in Lewes, the peace and safety of our neighborhoods are paramount. The current traffic situation not only endangers pedestrians, but also disrupts the tranquility that attracted many of us to Lewes in the first place. We risk transforming our beautiful community into an even busier thoroughfare if we do not address these concerns before further development is approved.
We urge residents and local leaders to carefully consider the implications of developing the Warrington and future properties. Please prioritize a comprehensive traffic plan that ensures the safety of our roads and retention of the character of our community.
