Millsboro Middle holds Junior Optimist Club induction ceremony
Officers and 23 new members were inducted into Millsboro Middle School’s Junior Optimist Club induction ceremony Oct. 22.
Assistant Principal Chris Costello commended students and Club Advisor Shelley McBride for launching Delaware’s first and only middle school club in the state of Delaware five years ago.
McBride recognized club President Lillian Ducharme, Vice President Charlotte Harman, Secretary Jaelyn Niblett and Treasurer Rylee Gaidurgis for their work in managing the student-run organization.
Mike DiFiore, lieutenant governor of the Maryland South Government District, said the worldwide club has been in existence for more than 100 years. The local Optimist Club of Sussex County is doing great things, such as giving scholarship funds to local high school students through essay and oratorical contests, he said.
Upcoming activities include serving Thanksgiving dinner at St. Mark's Church in Millsboro and visiting residents at Atlantic Shores nursing home. Earlier in October, club members partnered with Delaware State Parks to participate in a beach cleanup at Cape Henlopen State Park.
The Junior Optimist Club of Millsboro Middle School is committed to giving back to the community and the people who live there. The club is dedicated to improving lives, together with respect, integrity, a sense of global community and unwavering optimism.
