MOAA supports creation of Department of Veterans Affairs
The Military Officers Association of America Southern Delaware Chapter endorses House Bill 1 establishing a Department of Veterans Affairs for Delaware. We would encourage all residents to let their legislators know this bill needs their support.
With approximately 70,000 veterans living in this state, this department would ensure all veterans and their families receive the state and federal benefits and services they earned and deserve as a result of their selfless and honorable service.
According to SmileHub, Delaware is ranked 48th as a veteran-friendly state. The state ranks 47th concerning VA expenditures per veteran. A cabinet secretary would champion veterans' rights and improve Delaware's standing as a veteran-friendly state by helping them resolve social, medical and economic issues.
By establishing this cabinet position, the secretary of veterans affairs would help veterans, active and retired members of all the uniformed services, and their families obtain the benefits they are entitled to. The department would coordinate the efforts of all state agencies that provide services to our veterans and their families. The department would be an advocate for state military and National Guard installations, and ensure the Delaware Veterans Home and Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemeteries are properly managed, staffed and maintained.
Let your legislators know you support our veterans and are counting on them to carry this bill across the finish line to establish a Department of Veterans Affairs.
