Music for the Cure kicks off jazz festival weekend

October 23, 2024

The Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival opened its 2024 slate of shows Oct. 16, with the Music for the Cure event at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.

Established in 1990, Delaware Celebration of Jazz Inc. has been orchestrating events to bring national and international Grammy Award-winning artists to Sussex County. With performers Pamala Stanley and Yacht Lobsters on the bill, the Oct. 16 crowd had a hard time sitting still.

“Tunnell Cancer Center and the team at Beebe [Healthcare] have a special place in my heart,” said Dennis Santangini, president of the Delaware Celebration of Jazz and a recent cancer patient said. “Our board loves giving back to the selfless team members who support our community’s cancer patients every day.”

The goal throughout the years has been to raise money to help the Beebe Medical Foundation fund Tunnell Cancer Center. To date, the group has raised more than $250,000. Tunnell Cancer Center has more than 35,000 visits per year. Each year, they have more than 2,500 new patients, seeing about 150 patients each day.

Proceeds will benefit Beebe Healthcare’s Oncology Services, both in Lewes and Millville, as well as upcoming upgrades to Tunnell Cancer Center.
