The Phillies took advantage

The Phillies received three new significant players in the past week. One good move was acquiring Brandon Marsh from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to play centerfield. He is supposed to be very fast and good on defense. In order to get him, we had to give up our best catcher prospect Logan O'Hoppe. I hope our current starting catcher J.T. Realmuto continues to play well for at least a few more years. They did not have to give up much to get the other two pitchers: reliever David Robertson from the Chicago Cubs and Noah Syndergaard, who will become the fifth starter in the rotation.

In sad news, a couple of true sports legends passed away this week.

Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics, who won the most championships of anybody in team sports history. He won 11 championships in 14 years as a player for the Celtics. Russell carried the NBA in the 1950s and ’60s along with Wilt Chamberlain. Rightfully so, the NBA Finals MVP trophy is named after Bill Russell.

And in baseball, Vin Scully passed away at the age of 94. He was the Los Angeles Dodgers’ broadcaster for an incredible 67 years! His career went from 1950 to 2016. He started his broadcasting career at the age of 22 with the Brooklyn Dodgers, then moved with the team to Los Angeles in 1957. He also called more than 20 World Series! His two most famous calls that are mentioned and played all the time are Hank Aaron’s 715th home run in 1974 against the Dodgers and Kurt Gibson‘s game-winning home run in the 1988 World Series, which drew much attention because Gibson could barely even walk from a recent injury.
