Play ball!

March 11, 2022

So it looks like the powers that be have come up with a tentative deal to save this baseball season. Apparently, they’re going to have a month of spring training, then start the season Thursday, April 7. There are still hundreds of players who have not signed with a team in the off-season. So that is going to have to happen in the next few days and will be interesting to see who goes where. I am very happy both sides have come to their senses, and I am curious to get all the details.

March Madness is about to begin. This year’s tournament is going to be wide open. There is no dominant team, and I think four or five teams have the chance to win the whole thing, including perennial powers Duke and Kentucky. There are also Baylor and Gonzaga (who were the teams that were in the championship game last year), along with Auburn and maybe Villanova.

For the first time since 2014, the Delaware Blue Hens have made it to the tournament by winning their conference tournament. I don’t think they're going to be able to win a first-round game. If they do, it will be for the first time in their history. It will certainly be fun to follow.

This is a big week in golf. It's the Players Championship week, and they have been playing this tournament at TPC Sawgrass for 40 years. Unfortunately, this week in Jacksonville, Fla., they are receiving a lot of rain and have already had delays in the first two days of the tournament. The first round is not yet completed, and because of this, I think the tournament will have to end on Monday.

On Wednesday, the semi-annual World of Golf Hall of Fame ceremony was held at the Players Championship as well. Tiger Woods was the headliner since he just became eligible last year when he turned 45. His daughter did a great job presenting her dad, and Tiger's speech was good as it was about his early days in the game before he became a professional. I even heard some stuff I didn’t know. His speech is available to hear on golfchannel.com.
