It appears President Joe Biden will be visiting his North Shores beach home Saturday, Aug. 20. According to the Daily Guidance and Press Schedule from the White House issued Friday, Aug. 19, the president will leave Wilmington at 7:20 p.m. and is expected to arrive in Rehoboth by 8 p.m.
The guidance doesn’t say when Biden will be leaving; it just says he’ll be coming to town. However, the Federal Aviation Administration has issued a restricted flight area notice that lasts until 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24.
A reminder of security measures taken when Biden is in town:
- Gordons Pond users should expect restrictions. The park’s parking lot is just around the corner from Biden’s home and is used as a landing site for Marine Force One.
- The FAA’s temporary flight restrictions limit use of the airspace from Dover south to Ocean City, Md.; and west to the Maryland border.
- The Coast Guard establishes security zones in the ocean area immediately in front of North Shores beach and in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.
- If there’s a perceived emergency, the Bidens could be rushed to the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Hall on Rehoboth Avenue.
Since Biden was elected president, he has attended church, walked on the beach and gone for a few bike rides while in Rehoboth Beach. If he does so on this trip, send photos to reporter Chris Flood at cflood@capegazette.com.
