Progressive Democrats of Sussex host candidate forum

September 5, 2024

It was a standing-room-only event Aug. 21, when the Progressive Democrats of Sussex County hosted a forum featuring candidates for Delaware governor and lieutenant governor at the Lewes Public Library.

Gubernatorial candidates Bethany Hall-Long, Matt Meyer and Collin O’Mara responded in round robin style to six questions covering a range of issues important to Delawareans and Sussex County residents. The forum was moderated by Ruth Cohen, PDSC member.

The candidates responded to questions related to: managing rapid growth and development in Sussex County; managing incorporation laws that hide ownership of companies/entities engaged in nefarious activities; providing end-of life options to terminally ill patients; addressing inequitable and inadequate funding of Delaware’s public schools; addressing state political campaign finance reform; and changing Delaware’s high incarceration and recidivism rate by shifting the focus from punishment to rehabilitation.

Each of the three candidates for lieutenant governor – Sherry Dorsey Walker, Kyle Evans Gay and Debbie Harrington – was given five minutes to introduce themselves and talk about their platforms prior to the forum.

PDSC encourages all Democratic voters to visit the candidates’ websites and vote in the primary election Tuesday, Sept. 10, and the general election Tuesday, Nov. 5.
