The month of February after the Super Bowl is the quietest time on the sports calendar because the NBA has a week-long all-star break and baseball spring training is just beginning. We have to wait until the middle of March for college basketball and March Madness to start.
There is probably a 60% chance that the 76ers will not even make the play-in portion of the playoffs. If this happens, it will surely be one of the most disappointing seasons in recent years for the team, considering they have three extremely talented players leading their team this year with Tyrese Maxey, Paul George and Joel Embiid. At the beginning of the season, the national media projected Philadelphia to make it to the Eastern Conference finals. Even more disappointing is that there are only 15 active players on an NBA roster. Having three all-star players on your roster should make it easier to win. The 76ers only have 28 games left in the season. Let’s see if they can save their own bacon, haha!
Baseball spring training is about to begin in earnest, and the first televised Phillies game on TV will be Sunday. I’m a slightly disappointed fan because the Phillies only acquired two new pitchers and significant hitters this season. Jesus Luzardo, a left-handed pitcher from the Miami Marlins, and Jordan Romano, a relief pitcher from the Toronto Blue Jays. I would have preferred them to have traded either Nick Castellanos or Alec Bohm for different players so they could inject some new blood into the batting order. Regardless, I am so ready for baseball and the promise of warmer weather to come.
In local sports, it’s almost March, which means it is time for winter sports playoffs. Good luck to the Cape Henlopen boys’ and girls’ sports teams. Go Vikings!
