Rahm wins second major; Phillies continue to struggle
Jon Rahm won the Masters in impressive fashion by four shots over Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka. He did a great job recovering from his first hole four-putt double bogey. All the golfers had to deal with tough weather. I was surprised they continued to play as much as they did during Saturday's weather because it was absolutely horrible. It was like watching the golfers play golf in a swimming pool, especially through the afternoon.
Going into the marathon effort to get the tournament completed on Sunday, Koepka had a four-shot lead with 30 holes to go, but Rahm cut into it immediately, making birdie at the opening hole they played. Jon was very steady during those 30 holes and had control of the tournament for the last 10 holes. Mickelson virtually came out of nowhere to finish second after shooting a 65, which was his best closing round ever at the Masters.
No one knows what the future looks like for Tiger Woods. Sadly, he had to withdraw Sunday morning because his plantar fasciitis was so bad. I do not expect to see him until the U.S. Open in June, which is being played in Los Angeles, close to where Tiger was born.
Rahm is capable of becoming one of the greatest European golfers of all time. He has already won the 2021 U.S. Open and many other PGA tour wins. And he's is only 28 years old.
The Phillies are still struggling to get their season on track. They better start stringing together some series wins to get back in contention in the division. Their base running must improve and the offense has to be more consistent. In one game this week they scored 15 runs against the Miami Marlins and then they couldn't score more than four in two games and lost them both.
The Philadelphia 76ers have a lot of exciting basketball to play into May and possibly June. There is no obvious favorite to win the NBA championship this year. It is probably going to come down to four teams: the Boston Celtics, the Milwaukee Bucks and the 76ers in the East and then there's the Denver Nuggets in the West. In MVP voting, it is going to be very close between Nuggets center Nikola Jokić and 76ers center Joel Embiid. I really hope Joel wins this year since this has been his most consistent year and Jokić has already won two MVP awards.
Finally some good weather! Enjoy it.
