To mark the publication of her children’s story, retired H.O. Brittingham Elementary educator Cathy Miller could think of no better location for a book launch than her old school with the students who created the pictures for “Under a Mermaid Moon.”
Just before activities got underway with the school’s Title 1 Night and PTO meeting Nov. 8, Miller and students set up a table in the lobby, where they passed out stickers and bookmarks, and discussed the book students helped create in a summer illustrators camp led by Miller and H.O.B. art teacher Cherylyn Minto.
Miller was inspired to write the book after she purchased a 6-foot dolphin statue created by sculptor Edmund Silver and personalized by late artist Julie Molyneux at an auction held by the Rehoboth Art League and Rehoboth Main Street in 2003.
At the time, Miller said, Molyneux suggested the mermaid-themed dolphin would make a great idea for a children’s book.
