Risky first pick for the Eagles

April 28, 2023

In the first round of the NFL Draft, the Eagles were able to draft defensive tackle Jalen Carter from Georgia. The Eagles traded up from their original 10th pick, which they got from the New Orleans Saints last year, to the ninth slot to select him. There is a possibility of this being a great pick, but Jalen has some serious questions/issues to recover from. After the National Championship game, he got in trouble with the law for racing cars. If you want to know more, I will let you decide whether to look into it or not. Every media source I heard said he could’ve been a higher pick without this problem. I hope the Eagles have a one-strike policy with him.

I would have picked running back Bijan Robinson from Texas. Atlanta picked him with the eighth pick. He would’ve been a great replacement for Miles Sanders. With the 30th pick, the Eagles selected defensive end Nolan Smith, who also played at Georgia along with Jalen Carter. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out next season.

It’s official now. The 76ers will be playing the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs starting Monday. I am very nervous about this series because it seems like for the past two years the Celtics have had the Sixers’ number. In Game 3 of the prior series against the Brooklyn Nets, Joel Embiid suffered a knee injury. Today, no one knows whether Joel is going to be able to play in the first game. If the Sixers can beat the Celtics in this series, I think they will be favored to make it to the NBA Finals from the Eastern Conference because the Milwaukee Bucks were upset by the Miami Heat in the first round. The 76ers will have home court advantage in the Eastern Conference finals if they make it there.

The Phillies have a big series this weekend against the defending world champion Houston Astros. They will be on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. I hope the team is turning the corner. They finally got back to .500 by winning their last two series against the Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners. I heard Bryce Harper is pretty close to coming back to be the designated hitter for the team in the next two weeks or so. I hope this is the case. They have a lot to prove from here.
