Royals ready to roll all across the Delmarva Peninsula

Delmarva Christian boys’ basketball facing schools from all three states

Jeff Mohr, from whom Mohr Floor gets its name, would tell his players, “It’s a beautiful day on Delmarva!” in bitter cold or washout conditions during early spring.

When spring rolls around again, the Delmarva Christian boys’ basketball team will be able to tell people just how beautiful the winter weather was all across the Delmarva Peninsula, with a schedule featuring games against teams from Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

“We definitely have games to win to get into the state tournament, as long as we play good defense,” said senior Kasey Bell. “That’s what we pride our team on – defense.”

“We have certain defenses, certain positions and the ways we move, that’s all based off movement and getting to a position in time,” said senior Malachi Light. “You want to read where the eyes are going, read where the shoulders are going, anticipate the pass, get there early and just set up in defense prepared for them to make a move.”

“We've been working hard and getting endurance – that's the most important part,” said senior Christian Worley about preseason. “Working on our plays and just understanding what our assignments are, and working as a team, building the chemistry.”

Royals coach Marc Hannah believes he is working with a special group.

“This year, we have just a good core group of guys; we have three seniors, three juniors and a bunch of sophomores,” Hannah said. “This is probably the best guys I've ever had around; their energy is good, they're excited for the season, and no matter what the outcome, they're going to play hard every night.”

Hannah thinks the strength of the Royals will be defense and team basketball on the offensive end.

“I'm really blessed; we probably have 10 guys who can be put in and do something different when they are on offense,” Hannah said.

Hannah has coached Bell and Light since they were on the JV team.

“They've been playing on varsity since they were sophomores ... there's nothing they haven't seen,” Hannah said. “Even in different situations, they don't panic, and they're really good at using the guys around them.”

Delmarva Christian’s season will tip off at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, at home against Delmar.
