SDARJ honors Mariner Middle School students
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice recently honored Mariner Middle School students Myan Greene and Geremiah Curtis for their leadership, effort and excellence. The students were recognized in a ceremony at the school and received $20 gift cards to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.
Myan’s teachers said he is a tremendous young man with a contagious smile who brings energy and enthusiasm to everything he does. Myan was captain of the football team this year and helped Mariner achieve its first winning season in eight years. He participates in the Advancement Via Individual Determination elective program to prepare himself for college and a career. He is a Student Council vice president and helps organize special events. He was also part of the Special Olympics bocce ball, lacrosse and basketball teams.
According to his teachers, Geremiah is a respectful, hardworking student who is doing really great things at Mariner Middle School. Like Myan, Geremiah is a Student Council vice president and participates in the AVID program. He is also a member of the honor society, the Junior Justice League and the choir.
SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement Award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, improvement, effort and excellence in their schools. Students from each school in the Cape Henlopen and Indian River school districts are recognized throughout the academic year. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs, and advocates for racial justice, equality and fair opportunity. For more information, go to sdarj.org.
