The Sussex Academy soccer squad honored its Class of 2025 and recorded its 11th shutout of the regular season with a 5-0 win over Seaford Oct. 30 at the Sussex Academy pitch.
“It was a great night to celebrate our nine seniors,” said Seahawks head coach RJ Dina. “This is our biggest class in my time, one of the most successful bunches in my time here. Kudos to them and all the work they’ve put in to build this program to the power we are. I think we are finally getting guys to full health, and we are clicking at the right time. A bit of a setback last Saturday [in a loss in Virginia], but we made the adjustments and clearly refocused.”
George Sapna started off the scoring on a penalty kick 13 minutes into the game. Andres Romero kept the tallies going, scoring just 13 minutes later. Ruendi Ortiz was credited with the assist. The Seahawks went into the locker room up 2-0.
Chase Ballinger hit the twine at the 4-minute mark from Sapna, who continued the scoring, putting one in just two minutes later. Noah Benz finished the scoring for the Seahawks off a pass from Jesse Jean-Louis.
In all, Sussex Academy held a 10-2 shot edge in the game. CJ Norton made two saves for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks will fly to Cape’s Legends Stadium Saturday, Nov. 2, to face the Vikings at 7 p.m. for the Henlopen Conference Championship.
“Saturday will be a great test as we prepare for the state tournament,” said Dina. “This is a great conference, and we will look to make things very competitive away from home on Saturday.”
